Research concentrations
Six concentrations, built around urgent questions
In fragile health systems, research must help answer urgent questions. How can institutions become stronger? How can health systems protect the poor? How can hospitals improve quality? How can countries move toward Universal Health Coverage despite limited resources?
Health financing and UHC

Governance and institutions
Stewardship, regulation, digital accountability, public trust, leadership and organisational performance.
Hospital systems and quality
Clinical governance, patient safety, standards, protocols, IPC, quality improvement and service continuity.

Health security, emergency response, One Health, climate-related disruption and institutional resilience.
Population and social policy
Demography, displacement, gender, urbanisation, mental health, youth and social determinants.

Evidence to practice
Where the research meets the institutions he leads
His scholarship builds evidence from Somali and fragile-state contexts, where research is scarce yet vital for policy and planning. Each line of work aligns with an area of his public leadership.
